Today we drove down to the Logan River and spotted this beautiful Brahminy Kite at Waterford.

Thank you both.  I had never even seen one of these before, so it was an exciting find for me.

Great stuff Karen.... and without a doubt my favourite BOP. I get excited every time I catch a glimpse of one,,, they are so striking if the sun catches them on the chest in flight . I totally share your excitement ....hmmmm logan river area...I have to go there now and again with my daughter for stuff ...might have to have a poke around there..was there anything else interesting?

Birdie, this was very unexpected as it was taken at a place where jet skis play on the river, near the pub.  Yet we came past there again today, and saw the kite on the other side of the bridge, flying over the river.  Usually we don't see any bird life around there at all - too much traffic and activity.  This bird must have found the hunting good at this spot to have been there again.  Maybe he's moved in, for a while anyway.  MOH wants to go down there tomorrow to see if we can spot him again.

Karen if there is a boat ramp about they may explain it as they love to scavenge. Overseas they hang around landfill in great numbers like the Black kites do here.
Good luck tomorrow :)

Lovely photos Karen, I also love these Kites. It is very pleasing when you come across birds we haven't seen before and even better when you come home with some good photos of them. I can see your new camera is working for you very well.

Thank you Tassie.  I didn't realize that.

Thanks Shane.  If I don't post here tomorrow, you'll know we didn't see him  I live in hope though.

There was no hope of photographing him today.  He was on the wrong side of the bridge and we were travelling in fast traffic.  We were lucky to even spot him, but he is a superb figure in flight.
