Had a magical experience down at Point Cartright last week when the Yellow Tailed Blacks came in for their seasonal degustation meal on the Banksia nuts. I heard them but couldn't get into the bush where they were calling , and then found one of them near a path by the river. As I sat underneath the tree and listened to the cute noises they make I realised I was looking at a pair of them. Even better, after a few minutes their buddies started calling to find out where they were. They waited a good few minutes and gorged themselves a bit more ( bombarding me with cones all the while) and then gave up their location to their mates. I just stayed where I was right underneath them and the rest of the family swooped in with noisy cries...... I must have had a dozen there in one little glade..... didn't get many shots that are useable due to the dense canopy but the experience was awesome
And to add to the best day ever I had just come from the path around the open sea side and been watching whales breaching and splashing for half an hour....what a wonderful world we are privileged to share with them
Every day I am alive and able to see such treasures I give thanks to the universe !!
Beautiful! I love these birds. I only ever see them flying over, and that's rare for this urban area. I particularly love the second straight-on shot of the cocky gnawing the cone. Lovely! And the whales are spectacular. I love how people just get so excited watching them, and then get really, really quiet and just absorb the experience. :)
Just love the 2nd shot. What an experience they are such a lovely bird, quite often heard before seen.Your shots are just great. And to top it off the whale shot is a ripper. We really are very lucky to have such beautiful creatures around us. Everyday that we get to experience something new is always a great way to spend the day.
Thanks sacrednavel and Cath... the 2nd shot was my favourite too. The bird was totally relaxed in my presence and made a heap of eye contact... I think that is what made it so special..that and hearing the little soft sounds they make to themselves when they are near eachother.

Wish all birds would be this relaxed in our presence, at least until we have taken a few great snaps lol
