To me the Ibis is a beautiful bird. The colours of the Straw-necked Ibis in the sun is simply stunning. Saw hundreds on Sunday, I could have sat there for ever and be happy to observe them.(never mind the hundreds of photos I took)

I've never seen a straw-neck - wow, those irridescent colors are lovely! And it was only recently on a trip to Sydney that I noticed the other ibis have those lovely black plumes.
I never payed much attention to them, but now I think They are beautiful.

i've seen Straw-necked Ibis's before but i've never seen the colours on their wings, these are a great example
Great result, M-L! I love the colours of the Straw-necked. These look like they were taken at Coolart.

Great pictures, although they are not a popular bird in Sydney I have always admired and had respect for the humble Sacred Ibis, or White Ibis as many call them now.
Did you participate in the "White Ibis Survey" held today by the government? I did, although I was up before dawn for it, had a cracking time. Loved watching the young being fed and squabbling up in the nests through my bincoluars. Logged just under 70 birds for the day for the survey at two locations.
The Straw Neck Ibis is more frequent in rural areas, seen quite a few from the train between Kiama and Nowra looking after the farmers fields. Rare to see them in suburbia.
I had a look at that Raven, I thought it only took place in the Sydney area? Was I wrong? Because I live outside Melbourne, I didn't take part.

The survey covers most of the east coast of Australia and they have a day or two tolerance outside the official date. There is a web link on my post on the survey in the "General" section topics...
Thanks Raven, I just compleated the survey.

What a lovely set of photos M-L. I am going back and back again to #1. The more I look the more I admire this beautiful bird. Recently I have seen only a couple in Ash Island near Newcastle from a distance - didn't appreciate the colourful plumage !!
Thanks for sharing.
