While walking this morning I saw a black bird through my binoculars. I only caught a glimpse for a few seconds before it flew off but Im sure it had a red comb/crest. It was the size of an eastern koel or a bit bigger. It was perched quite high up in a gumtree on the edge of a forest reserve at Toowoomba QLD. Its call was one long note. Ive never seen anything like it and can't find anything like in my books. Any ideas as to what it may be?
I know it sounds odd, but could it be a brush turkey? While they're rather clumsy fliers, they do often roost quite high up in trees at night.
That said, I don't know about the call being one long note.

You know, I was starting to wonder that myself...I didn't realise that brush Turkey's rooster so high in trees. It could have been another bird call that I
heard. And it could even be another bird I saw fly off. I'm thinking its probably the only explanation. Thanks Tim
