Nathan, there is bush all around us. We are very lucky to live here, lots of grasses, trees and native vegetation. I wish everbody could live like this.
You are lucky, and to be able to get the pics and fantastic they are. We have baby wrens, welcome swallows, grey fantails, Tasmanian native hens, masked lapwings, little wattle birds and our wood ducks (posted the other day), but can't get close enough for photos. Certainly don't want to disturb.
ML, you asked for updates on the wood ducks, they disappeared again yesterday, found them today on the neighbors dam - close to a 1 klm walk for those little legs. They still have all 11 chicks. Seems like they are moving around, possibly looking for food.
o, that is good news Dale. We had some wood ducks some years ago, but they got eaten by the eagles, and after two years the ducks moved away. They can walk fast, have you seen them swimm? They swimm even faster than they walk. So far so good then, let's hope they all grow up. Thanks for the update.
A few days ago I saw a family of 2 adults & about 11 young wood ducks in a paddock near our house, about 800 metres from the neighbours' dam on which I'd seen them a few days before. The young are about 4 weeks old so I'm wondering if they flew, waddled or hitchhiked. Or did they simply duck in for a change of scenery. Any ideas?
aww, you're lucky to get all these juveniles in your garden - i hardly get any for some reason
great photos
