Baby Coot with white chest

This is one of the young coots I took photos of when they were tiny and had no hair. They have grown and look a bit more hairywink. I have never noticed any having a white chest though. It looks as if the baby fell in some white paint. Have you seen them like that? Is it normal?

Just a plumage stage M-L. The white should eventually be replaced by black adult feathers.

Cheers, Owen.

Thanks Owen, I have lots of photos of them when they were just a few days old, bold and beautiful(?wink), or later, when they are all grey, before they turn black. I was a bit worried, because the ranger told me people climb over the fences at night, steal plants and ducks.

Don't you love their spiky plumage? They look so cute!
