How could I ?? I should have known the rodent-run pointed to the fact the babies were out of the nest. I saw them just then, 4 little ones, long tails already. Both parents have a lot of work to do, the young are following them around fast. So lot No3 is going to make it , I'm sure.
Here is one that sat on the fence for a fleeting moment, just enough to take a few photos.
(not the best in the early morning sun, but better than none)
Sassy little bird butt. That's so cute! :)
Two weeks ago I counted 57 superb fairy-wrens on our patch. Presumably, there were lots of young ones among them as the previous highest number I've counted is 36 if I remember rightly. Last week I counted 28. The young may have already dispersed into other habitat which is developing around here although the extreme heat we've had may have accounted for some.
I shall go outside now and count mine, will have to climb over the fence though, this year most have chosen to breed in the Park. Those little s, but where do I stop? When I count to 60?

That'll depend on the size of the area you're surveying. Don't forget to climb over your neighbour's fence, too, Araminta.
Too hot Woko !!! But I just did a small survey, the area I can see from my kitchen window is about a quarter acre, I counted 12 at the same time. (probabely more if I had better glasses?) 6 of them juveniles, 2 males and the rest big girls

Based on the numbers at my place, that's a goodly number. Your resources would be more plentiful than mine since you have a higher average rainfall (mine is 475 mm) so I expect your place would be able to support more fairy-wrens per whatever - other things being roughly similar.
