Hi all ,Im very new to this site and it looks great. My interest is in wedge tail eagles and I would like to start and try and photograph these beautiful raptors. I have admired these birds for some time but I want to start and try to take shots. It came about when My family spent a week on a farm in Kawarren south of Colac a week ago and we had been driving there farm buggy around the property and as we approached a dead cow this amazing eagle took of and it was breathtaking. From that point I thought to myself I want to try and capture the largest bird of prey in Australia on film,( well memory card) and make this my hopefuly new and rewarding hobby. Im from Mooroolbark Victoria and was hoping if anyone has sightings of a wedgy in there area that isnt a days drive from where I live, I'd appreciate reply's : )
Thank's and happy watching.
Hey, cliffazza, what an experience you've had. It's often a moment like you had which fires the enthusiasm for bird watching & photography. Hope you're able to see wedgetailed eagles closer to home.
Hi Cliffazza, you've come to the right place! I've seen one at Lysterfield Park on occasion and also over Belgrave-Hallam Road in Lysterfield. Other places have been out at Yarra Glen. They are magnificent birds. If you want to get a good close up go to Healesville and watch the Birds in Flight show. While it is a trained bird and not in the wild, it will fly over head and into trees and will give you the opportunity practicing taking photos of it while in flight.

Thank's Kathiemt, I have seen the show at Healesville Sanctuary some time ago. But that is a great idea to practise taking shots.
Thank's Woko, It was amazing and my 12 year old son who was with me had never seen anything like it being so close in the wild and was blown away.
Welcome you will find that no matter were you go,there are always new birds to be seen.

Hi, most of my photos of Wedgetails where taken at Cranbourne Gardens down on the paddocks around the wetlands ,I posted a photo of one there getting beaten up by a Magpie ! I have seen them at the Police paddocks and Lysterfield park ,I have even seen one cruising the fairways at Ferntree Gully .
They are in your area you just have to look for them they can turn up anywhere there is open space and rabbits , its a matter of being at the right place at the right time (the first one is always the hardest )so have fun and good luck.
I saw two circle above our paddock here in Gembrook yesterday. (they fly to Healesville for a free feed at the Sanctuary)
I even knew where they used to roost (is that how you call it?), the property was called Eagle's Nest. (between Emerald and Upper Beaconsfield. But after new people bought the house and cleared the block, the Eagles moved on. They must still be in the are, they often fly over Gembrook
