but she did not seem to have enough yellow on the belly nor holdthe wings apart as robins do so that you can see the back feathers

I think that might be it

I am used to the northern form that is a yellow-olive upperparts and pale yellow lower

Slater refers to a south-western form that is olive-brown upperparts and yellowish-buff lower
