Nice one, Woko.

This reminds me of our uni trip to SW Qld this time last year - that photo has the feel of some of the creeks around Bowra Station.

Reminds me of me and my partner after a disagreement. LoL .... luckily it's rare.

They'll probably come in dribs & drabs, Araminta. My getting up to photography speed makes a mockery of the word "speed".

Laratinga Wetlands are artificial & catch the treated effluent from Mt Barker's citizens. I hadn't been there for about five years but the beauty of the place is quite astounding. Mt Barker Council is to be highly commended for its efforts in this particular project.

Anyway, I also saw a pair of Australian Spotted Crakes:

Due to overwhelming, even crushing demand, here is a shot of a very small section of the Laratinga Wetlands.

The wetlands themselves don't pong, shirley. Just the usual healthy wetland odour. The actual sewage works upstream from the wetlands have a bit of a pong but the aeration gear constantly grinds away keeping things reasonably fresh & fluffy. I've watched birds at a number of treatment works & any slight pong has been worth tolerating for the bird watching experience.

But I have to ask - as there isn't one here in Tenterfield and I've never been to one, ever - Do effluent treatment plants actually stink of sewerage at all?

Shirley, I suggest that Tenterfield has a Sewage Treatment Works else you would all have septic tanks on each allotment. My memory says that the Water Treatment Works is on the south-western side of town off Scrub Road, I cannot recall if the STW were on this site. A quick look at the Tennterfield Shire Council website, http://www.tenterfield.nsw.gov.au/index.php?option=com_jentlacontent&view=article&id=497042:application-for-water-sewer-mains-locati&catid=2490:application-forms-for-water-sewerage-mat&Itemid=2969 , shows that they have fees for a sewer main location diagram thereby confirming the above. Otherwise all of the Tenterfield sewage must be trucked out of town for treatment elsewhere. Clearly with your sensitive olfactory sense you don't really want to locate the STW. I will look on the Tenterfiled Birding brochure this evening.
