what is wrong with this little guys beak ?

I don't think this Inland Thornbill's beak is suppose to be like this? What do you think might be wrong with it, it looks odd to me does anyone else feel the same? Sorry most of the photos aren't clear , I have cropped them so you can have a closer look at its beak.

It almost looks as if the lower part of the beak has broken off? Did you see it feed? If it was borne that way, it might well have learned, or will learn, how to live with it? If not, unfortunately there is no support or compassion for disabled animals in nature.Just the way life works for them.crying

It almost looked to me as if maybe the top part of his beak is too long , where it may have over grown or something. Yes he was busy going from plant to tree so I dont think he had any problem eating , I just thought it looked weird once i uploaded the photos and had a look at them.

Shoop, interesting, my 1st thought was that the upper bill was extended but then I looked at my Inland Thornbill file pic (Mundy Regional Park, Perth Mar '13) and this bill appears to be long in comparison to other Thornbills; I now think that it is part of lower bill broken and now upper extending

Going by your photo Peter , I would have to agree . Thanks for posting a photo to compare. I have taken very little photos of this type of bird so I didn't have anything to really compare it too. Love this forum.
