Long-billed Corella - another to add to my list.

Amongst so many Little Corellas I was lucky to spy two Long-billed Corellas. So glad to add another to my list !  Woot.yessmiley

Just out of interest, Peter, what is your life list total? You get around often so I assume you must have a decent list...

Yes too Little Corellas , they are like rats here and as you can see above YES to Long-billed Corellas but not sure about the Western Corella. I have this one photo here that may well be but i am not 100% confident to say it is yet . Maybe someone can ID it properly for me. Then we will all know cheeky And then I can tick another off my list !  P.S. the name is SHOOP not Snoop....LOL blush......also by the way did you see the photo i posted in Glitz and Glam of the baby Corella ( well I think it's a baby as it seems to not have all its face feathers yet) when I first saw it i thought oh look at that poor old Corella then when i got home and had a good look on the computer I thought maybe its just a baby and not a old thing after all !!!!!!!!!!!! LOL.

I would also like to know if this is a cross breeding of Corella with Galah , as I have seen a few like this and they are with the flocks of Corellas without any other Pink and Greys?? Just a thought ..would like to know what others think?????

Wow that is really interesting a Corlah or Gallella. I want to see one, and a western Corella.

I see quite a few of the little and long bills in Sydney but only in the city over the last 3 years.

Great photos Richman, I would have like to get closer photos like your Long-billed Corella but the were perched high in the tree . They didn't come down on the ground at all the whole time I was there. I'm still uncertain about my Western Corella , crossing fingers that my photo is one !!!!!!!wink

Brandon, I started birding in October '10 and my life list is Australia - 379, Australia races or forms - 28, North America - 92 and Samoa - 27, Latest - Little Eagle. I only count where I have an identifiable photo. Those numbers will get another boost in September as I have 2 weeks leave and doing some travelling.

Shoop - sorry about the mispelled name; I hope the pics show the distinguishing Western Corella features - short white crest, large blue eye ring extending below the eye, long bill, little or no pink on breast; I got my pics in Beverley; I saved your post #4 pic and zoomed in and can see those features in the bird; I believe that you have your Western Corella

Thanks Peter. I have seen so many Little Corellas that seeing this one seemed a tad different , was so hoping it was a Western Corella just didnt want to jinx it. It is great to be able to post photos and get other peoples opinions ( especially when its what you were hoping to hear )yes . Better go sharpen my pencil now so I can tick that one off the list. smiley Thanks again Peter.

A bit of an advantage as these ones (longbills) are used to humans and can even be coaxed up onto your arm for an occasional nut (unsalted almond) if you catch them on a good day. (Centennial Park Sydney)
