They have such sweet faces but almost make me cringe with the flexibility of their neck - either that or I'm jealous I can't reach all of my back feathers I've only ever seen one or two of these and can never seem to get my sneaky on enough to get close before they're spooked off. Just lovely.
I love them Dale, some people think they are boring birds, I like the way they stretch out their wings in the sun (if there is any).We walk along the beach a lot, sometimes you see five or more on the fence drying out .
There's a 'lagoon' down the road from my house, and there's a resident Little Black Cormorant. He occasionally has a Little Pied Cormorant hanging out there with him. :) He is much more tolerant of me and my camera, while the Pied doesn't take much to spook, and requires more sneaking.
Bit of a fun, long range shot with the two friends, and an extremely unhappy Magpie Lark. Hope I'm not hijacking your thread. (oh, and a random Dusky Moorhen)
Hijack away, not about my photos, about sharing and caring for birds. Nice to get 4 species in one shot, and the scenery isn't bad either. My Little Pied must be used to terrorists (I mean tourists), as I was only a few metres away before he took off. Thanks for posting.
It's kind of a funny place, stuck in the middle of suburbia. It used to be a farmer's dam before they built housing estate around it and transformed it into a lagoon for marketing purposes. It's home to a few different ducks (mainly Hardheads and Pacific Blacks), Australasian Grebes, the Cormorant, Dusky Moorhens. Lots of ibis, as well as Rainbow and Scaly-Breasted Lorikeets come there to feed.
Just a nice, local, place to go and hang out. (apparently the birds think so too)
