New Hollands are back

The birds in my garden are swinging into action. I knew the breeding season wasn’t far away, when the Wattlebird turned up, (only one every year) , there also is a Currawong hanging around.

They are here for the kill, so to speak. They are waiting for eggs and nestlings.

Then today I noticed the first New Holland Honeyeaters, no idea where they breed? Has to be on the other side of the fence, but they had some begging juveniles in tow. Of course the young ones were  constantly harassed by the Wattlebird. One simply sat in the shrub, looking up , calling out but not hiding below, kind of no fear yet. It’ll have to learn fast if it wants to survive. There were two or three young birds, will try and find them tomorrow. Some photos of one:

Hey Araminta, I encountered our 6th batch of young New Holland Honeyeaters yesterday. The breeding of this species is early & frantic so far here (s.e. slopes of Mt Lofty Ranges, SA) this year.
