Much discussion recently about the male Superb Fairy Wrens changing colour. Some of ours have changed, but some have not. This one taken today, while he sat still for me, unfortunately he was in the shade.

Well done Dale, his posture also indicates that there most likely is a nest somewhere, it looks to me as if he is telling you to back off.
What I don't understand though is, although it most likely is colder where you live than where I live, (just like it is colder in Canberra?), I don't have any in breeding colours yet.
Can anybody explain that to me???
Thankls Dale

M-L, can't answer why yours aren't changing. You are right I think there are nest(s) near by, and I reckon I know where, but won't go there. Seems like we have 3 in breeding colours, but probably 8 or 9 that have not yet changed. A few days ago, I had to cart some hay on the ute, today there was a male (non breeding colour) and a female scrounging around in the hay, maybe insects or may be nesting material, they flew off empty beaked, as I disturbed them (didn't know they we there).

They do that at my place , (hopefully soon), they pick up the horse hair after they are brushed, also the dog hair. But so far nothing.

He's a cutie Dale. Same with the Wrens at this end of the State Dale. In fact the one at the dog place, that I noted was in breeding plumage earlier this year, is still in his plumage too & Staff say he's around all the time & always in his colours. Assuming it's always the same boy of course .
