Eastern Rosellas!

I finally got a decent picture of an Eastern Rosella! I almost ruined it by forgetting to fix the exposure (I had been in a dark spot and went somewhere with lots of light), but thankfully it was a RAW file, so iPhoto let me fix the exposure. Additionally, I got a shot of a Straw Necked Ibis that I kid of like because of the light. I know some may say 'boring, it's just another ibis, there's plenty of them around at the moment', but I like them!

Congratulations Lachlan, as you said before, the Eastern Rosellas are very difficult to get close enough to. I get them at my place from time to time. But even opening my front door makes the fly away.

I love Straw -necked Ibis, from close up they have those fascinating colours on their wings. They look even more majestic in flight.

Well doneyes

(what area do you live in? Don't want the exact addresswink. You have told us before, but you know, old age..... I forgotcrying)

Well done, Lachlan. One of the harder birds to get.

I have not seen a SN Ibis for a while now, but i'm sure they will be back soon.

Thanks for the compliment, Araminta. When I first saw some, I went home and spent ages leafing through my bird book trying to find a bird with iridescent wings... My book just had them with black wings, and I didn't recognise the SN Ibises as what I had seen.

I live right on the outskirts of South Western Sydney in Camden... In some ways it is a good location, as there are plenty of good birding spots within a half and hour dive. On the other hand, theres paddocks all around, so there is a smaller range of bush birds like robins and honeyeaters, but you get interesting stuff in the paddocks. My main complaint is that so much of the land to the south east and to the west is owned by the Sydney Catchment Authority and people aren't allowed to access it.

Its a good spot for beating holiday traffic out of Sydney, you get to the campsites to the south an hour before all the inner city types and can usually grab a good spot. smiley

Its surprising that you haven't seen any SN Ibises, it seems like there is a massive exodus to the wetter areas going on from inland. Earlier this year a huge flock moved into the area and has sort of dispersed itself. Apparently its sort of the same with budgies up north in the Hunter- everything is moving towards the coast.

Sad that you have only seen them once, Elsie, they are really beautiful birds... It's interesting that you like the light, I have been experimenting with the 'Golden hour' in the afternoon to see how the different light will change the photographs. The only problem is that it if you don't time yourself, you only have an hour or so before dusk and the nice light is gone...
