Purple Swamp Hen

Already posted a photo of this beauty in this weeks ''SHEEN'' topic , but had to post more of this common bird . I often see them at all the parks and lakes I go to but this day this beauty was so busy bathing and preening I just couldn't stop taking photos of it's gorgeous feather display. Minnawarra Park Armadale West. Australia.

Stunning photos shoopyes I love the second photo.

Do they look different in WA?  I haven't noticed that light blue colour before, here they look a lot darkercrying. Do you think it's their breeding plumage? Any idea?

Supposed to be common in Tassie, saw my first last week, could not get photos like your, love them, and they do look a little different colour than ours to, ours are definenately darker.
Thanks for the great shots!

M-L, the SW of WA birds are a different race, ie race bellus, the main differentiating feature is a blue breast; the widespread form is race melanotus, ie the one that we see; I tried to attach a pic form Rockingham, WA but Shoop's is better
