That's what the sign at the Jawbone Wetlands (Mel Vic) says. There were lots of those, beautiful Black-winged Stilts.
sorry, I posted that many, couldn't help it, just had to do it.

Araminta don't apologise for uploading these photos, they are truely beautiful. I am laid up for the next 6 weeks after having ankle surgery last Monday so I am living vicariously through everyone else's photos. Please please keep them coming.

Excellent shots, M-L. I have not seen these before. I really need to start going to the coast on weekends.

Looks like they gather in large numbers. I too enjoy these pics. Are these wetlands fresh or sea water?
Donna, hope you recover quickly.

Lovely photos M-L! They are such beautiful birds with their black and white and then pink legs!
I hope that you get better quickly Donna!
Hi Karen, here is some information about the "Jawbone Wetlands"
There were a few hundred Stilts Those wetlands are fresh water (I think), I have also seen Stilts on Albert Park Lake in the City.

Thanks everyone for your nice comments.
Donna, I wish you all the best.

Thanks M-L. I wondered, because I see stilts only at salt water sites, and wondered if they were found in freshwater too. They seem to gather in such large numbers, though I have seen single ones too.

According to Morcombe black-winged stilts inhabit salt & fresh water wetlands. Banded stilts, on the other hand, inhabit salt water environments.
