some of sundays sightings

Was out and about yesterday looking to upgrade my little Yaris to a 4WD, wasn't having much luck so we stopped off at Lake Monger to check out the bird situation. Not many about as it was a bit of a gloomy day but got these few anyway.  Striated PardaloteMale Australian ShelduckRainbow LorikeetRed Wattlebird , having alot to say.Black Swan having a bathAustralian Raven

Wonderful pictures. I particularly like the Raven. It's so hard to pick out the details in all-black birds, but you've captured it beautifully. :)

Whenever I see pictures of those Red Wattlebirds I think they look like they have little pull tabs on the side of their mouth.

Hehe... they kind of look like those ones which they put in electronic devices to block the batteries to keep them from going off. Maybe if you pull on the tab the sound will get louder? laugh

There normally are way more birds at Lake Monger especially water birds , come spring I am sure they will all be back with their babies as well. As for the Pardalotes Lake Monger is a place I know where you can see them a few feet above your head , most of the time they are too high up in the eucalyptus trees but they love to nest in the palm trees as do the Lorikeets and also I have seen the kingfishers as well nesting in the palm trees at Lake Monger . .. I must post the photos to show.

What a great day out Shoop - I'll take your "not many about" over my "all hiding from the storms" any day laughwink - we're having miserable weather crying.  Love the Pardy's pointer dog pose, I have quite a soft spot for Pardy's heart  and that glossy Raven in the last shot, gorgeous.  Brilliant shots Shoop!

This is for you Ruby seeing you love Pardalotes so much. I would love to be able to photograph the Spotted Pardalote but I haven't been able to get close enough to the few my brother-in-law has on his property in Denmark WA. There doesn't seem to be many up here where I live although I have been hearing one for the last few months around our neighbourhood but haven't got a glimpse of it yet. Anyway back to this , I wanted to share these two photos I took of the Pardalote with its wings fanned out , it looks so cute . I have no idea why they do this maybe some-one else on here might be able to tell us. I do know my canaries do this as well when they are courting and also when they are bickering .

Aww shoop, he's gorgeous!  Thanks for that!  My understanding is that it's a form of thermoregulation, a way to alter their body temperature.  But I may be wrong....  I'll send a few Spotteds your way, if you can send a couple of Striateds mine wink - their little wings might get a bit tired though laugh
