Very nice M-L!

Could she be sitting on eggs? Do they have a nest yet? smiley

Well done!

The female is probably thinking "I guess he'll turn blue eventually, but I'm not holding my breath."

Elsie, I haven't seen a nest anywhere, but looking at her chest, it looks as if she might be sitting on eggs? The way her feathers are parted, what do you think?

The girl did the same last season, she sat on the nest before the male turned into breeding colours.

People who hold their breath often turn blue though. winklaugh

It does look like she may have been sitting but it is still a touch early I would think - having said that, birds sometimes don't conform to what we think they should be doing...

I love the boys when they are in the middle of a moult. He must be pretty young I think - usually when they get older than a couple of years they don't moult into non-breeding plumage.

I hope you are right Holly about her sitting on eggs. Do you think where the teathers are parted on her chest is a " brood patch"?

(or just the wind ?)

This boy has to be at least 2 years old, he changed that late last time. They also hang out in the same territory where they nested last seasonyes
