Blue wrens and mirror

Hi Everyone

Firstly must thank everyone for the tips for sandfly bites - thanks they are much better now.

Yesterday I went to the Jerrabomberra Wetlands, thought I might see a raptor or two - no raptors but lots of wrens.  I photographed 2 males having a fine old time playing "touch" they were so cute.

Then this morning early I found a couple of wrens looking at their reflection in the car mirror of a car parked across the road.  Thought I will not see that again.  Then this afternoon, the same two (male and female) found the mirror on my car parked in the driveway.  This was difficult as the car was parked near a hedge in the shade and my husband's white car was in front, so I was getting the reflection from his car  - upped the ISO but photos not too good and clear.

Anyhow see what you think

Cheers Diane

O , the triple one is greatyes At my place the Wrens and the White-browed Scrubwrens do it all day long. I have taken countless photos of them doing it. Like you, I found it hard to get the photos right because of the lighting. I changed the exposure compensation, but because of the shiny surfaces it's not that easy. Try finding the right position to stand in, so you don't get the reflection of the shiny surfaces. The last one with the three reflections is fantastic. Don't think you could get them any better. Well doneyes

Love these Diane!  That first shot is absolute magic, my favourite.  I find those small birds so so hard to nail in flight - actually, I find the in flight big ones hard too laugh - brilliant!

Great shots, Diane.

The Raptors are very quiet at the wetlands at the moment as they are nesting away from there at the moment.

If your interested there are 3 Baillon's Crake and 2 Buff-Banded Rail at the wetlands. Go to the Bittern Hide and using the viewing holes in the fence there is a gap between the reed beds. You will have to look hard for the Baillon's as he blends in very well.

Hi rawshorty

Thanks for the tip -have not seen either of those birds - so it is something to look out for.  I was at Lanyon the other morning and spoke to one of the Managers/workers who was telling me that in the paddock on the left of the driveway for the last couple of years a pair of perigrine falcons have nested there. Just after that I heard a commotion and there was one of the falcons being seriously harrassed by a magpie, got some shots but they were a bit far away.  That day I bumped into you both at the Wetlands one of you told me about the wedge tails that were nesting on the hill at the back of Banks.  Just before we went away I heard all the birds taking off in all directions and directly overhead was the wedge tail also being attacked by a maggie, what is wrong with those birds they are seriously mad!!  Did get some good shots that day.

Cheers Diane
