Well, I guess Spring has arrived and there seem to be birds all over the place. Here are a few recent observations around my place in Gippsland.
- There seem to be a lot of New Holland honeyeaters about. I only became aware that these bords exist at my place recently, but now I see a lot of them. They take nectar from one of the grevilleas in my garden. That means that the grevilleas now have regular visitors from Eastern spinebills, New Holland honeyeaters, Crescent honeyeaters and possibly yellow-faced honeyeaters.
- Some swallows were spending a lot of time in my shed, presumably planning a nest. I rather meanly chased them out and closed the door. I don't want them building a nest in there and being locked out of it.
- I saw a baby bird plummet to the ground, landing about 2m in front of me. Its parent landed right next to it, and for a moment I thought it had fallen out of the nest and couldn't fly, but it quickly took off and landed in a nearby tree. I think it was also a yellow-faced h.e. Is it early for babies to be leaving the nest?

I've had New Holland honeyeaters breeding since June, Soakes, so quite a few have left the nest.
Saw a pair of wood ducks with 5 young ones this morning on a neighbour's dam.
When I took this photo last week, (I know I posted it before), the Lewin's got the upper hand and the Yellow-faced Honeyeater was defeted, I thought the Lewin's attacked it. Since then I have changed my mind on it. I walked under the tree they hang around most of the day, and from time to time two Yellow-faced drop out of it. I watched them for a while and noticed, they are rather aggressive towards each other. I observed them getting into fights , one or both simply dropping out of the tree.

Could this be mating or territorial behaviour, Araminta?
The thought crossed my mind. You might be right Woko. A bit rough , but hey, who are we to judge
