Watched this beauty catch, kill and eat a Magpie in my backyard in Heidelberg, VIC. Absolutely gorgeous bird...what a treat to see this bird in action.
Some great shots Kent. We never got to see one in our backyard when living in Heidelberg...but found some interesting 'leftovers' that got me wondering sometimes.
Wonderful photos. Look at those feet. I have some in the bush behind my house , I hear them at times, but I have never seen them. What a treat, thanks for showing the photos .
Thanks folks. Pure luck honestly. I've seen a few in the neighborhood over the last couple of years. This time I was able to get the camera and he posed for me. You can see in his eyes that if I was a bit smaller, I'd be on the menu.
Wow, they're such magnificent birds. Lucky you capturing such fantastic shots of this amazing bird. It must have been an amazing sight to see him capture & consume dinner right in front of you!! They really have that disdainful stare & attitude down pat, just for us mere mortals, don't they .
Outstanding.

Love Powerful Owls. They are the kings of the night. I spend a lot of time with them usually around March to August.
