Hm, Simpso&Day tells me , the juvenile White-plumed Honeyeater has an orange bill , the Yellow-plumed has an orange base of the bill.. What was the location you saw the bird?
Anyway, I'd love to have a book about "Juvenile Australian Birds", and how to ID them.

1 & 2: Yellow-plumed Honeyeater
3: Australian Reed-warbler
4: A young Purple swamphen
5: Buff-banded Rail
Thanks Nathan, much appreciated.
Yellow or White plumed Honeyeater?
Contradicting assessments
Cheers
White-plumed Honeyeater.
YP Honeyeater, notice they have streaks on the underside which are still prominant in a juvenile. As well as a lot more grey and black on the face.
WP Honeyeater lacks stripes and pure yellow face.
The other three birds are correct.

Thanks all, much appreciated.
In my opinion, #4 is a young Dusky Moorhen. At this age, a Swamphen would have a much heavier bill.
The plot thickens. Now I'm really confused
Moorhen or Swamphen?
There is no plot to thicken.
100% Dusky Moorhen, as I said before.

I have hundreds of photos of juveniles, I'm not kidding........I don't know why I'm trying to tell you it's a Dusky Moorhen
M-L
one more juvenile Dusky Moorhen

I wasn't questioning your call Araminta, It was NathanY who called it as a young Purple Swamphen.
Thanks for everyones help. Please note smileys in text, they denote this is not so serious
Cheers.
I just had a juvenile White-plumed Honeyeater, like the one in your photos , hit my windows . Very sad , it didn't make it
M-L
That's sad, there such a cute bird.
Oh well, at least I got 2 of them right, haha
