Two more from weekend. Saw 6 or 7 Pipits in the grass, this one was chirping away. Also got a close pic of a grebe by hiding behind a tree at the edge of the pond .... when he did spot me he did a crash dive with a big splash and surfaced on the other side of the pond.
That Pipit sure is a cutie.
Grebes are funny little birds, that's for sure. So adorable, but so timid.
I love the Grebe. For some reason the grebe on the lake I often walk around, have not had any young this year. Parks has cleaned and removed some of the reed and water plants, that could be why?

Could well be an absence of nesting material &/or disturbance by the Parks staff, Araminta. I wonder what the motivation was for removing reeds & other water plants.
thats a shame ... as woko said they might have removed the nesting material.
Perhaps they were exotic weeds or diseased vegetation? (just speculation)
Even if so I would hope any management attempts would take into consideration the habitat requirements of the native birds...
...before they gradually replace the weeds with indigenous vegetation.
Sweet little Pipit singing his heart out by the looks? 6 or 7 of them! I know I know, they're "common", but I'd never seen one before and got so excited when I saw my first one, of one , so dying to see some more too. Loving the little Grebe shot also, glad you out-snuck him .
