Yesterday was World Wetland Day so what a great tie in to our Bird of the Week photos....
Lets see photos of birds from your local wetland (so one that you regularly visit that is close to you). Lets make it extra challenging and see if you can post one photo in each of the sub-categories (note these are not all strictly taxonomic) - see if you can get them all from the same wetland:
1. Waterfowl (ducks and swans),
2. Grebes, crakes and rails (including the swamphens and moorhens)
3. Ibis and spoonbills
4. Herons, storks, egrets and cranes,
5. Cormorants and pelicans,
6. Terrestrial birds
7. Other (anything else that doesn't fit into the above categories e.g. bitterns, lapwings, waders)...
If you can't post a photo from each category from the same wetland, just post one in as many categories as you can. Hope this one makes sense!
Would love to see a shot of the wetland itself as well!
OK I'll do my best here
So these photos are all taken as lake Apex.
Taken at Coolart Wetlands Vic, one of my favourite places. There are a few more I could post, just might later?

A little confused. So it's one photo per sub category per wetland? ie if I have 3 photos, grebe, ibis, heron from a single wetland, but no others that match the remaining sub categories, I only post those three photos. Hope this makes sense. Cheers
Yes thats right Rick - one photo from each of the 7 categories that you have (so in your case - the 3 photos).
Thanks Holly. What a great theme.
Lovely photos M-L. They are all so clear! The one of the little Grebe sends me into stitches every time!
My frequent wetland would have to be Bibra lake. So many photos to choose from (sigh),
so it is a hard choice to decided on one from each category, but here goes.
No1. Category
Swan Family
No.2 Category,No Moorhens but I hope Coots are close enough No. 3 Ibis and Spoonbill ( 10 points for having them both in the photo together hehehehe) No.4 Egret and also this includes a shot of the wetland. No. 5 Cormorants No 6. Unfortunately haven't got any shots of Terrestrail birds.
No. 7 Category Other: I choose Kookaburra
Kerry - Perth, Western Australia.
My favourite local wetland would have to be Laratinga on the outskirts of Mt Barker. Wonderful variety of birds to be seen.
Category 1 - Pacific Black Duck
Category 2 - Buff-banded Rail
Category 3 - Yellow-billed Spoonbill
Category 4 - White-faced Heron
Category 5 - Great Cormorant
Category 6 - Common Bronzewing
Category 7 - Masked Lapwing
Wetlands entry sign
Drying wetland, taken looking towards the boardwalk. The main area still with water is just below the "you are here" sign as shown on the entry sign. (spoonbill photo taken there)
Unfortunately don't have a landscape shot as always too busy with the birds, will get one next time for sure. Plus will be looking hard for 3&5s
Cheers
P.S Being as obsessive as I am I couldn't stand not having a photo for categorys 3&5 Only one thing for it, a quick trip to the wetlands! Also took the time to take a couple of shots of the "not so wet" lands
Cheers

Love your photos rawshorty - keep posting.
Sadly I lost everyhting on my hardrive including all my wetland photos
But I did take a nice bike ride to my local "mini" wetland, not much there in the ways of water birds though (hope the Kingfisher counts)
Looks like a nice spot. Love the Heron Bad luck about the drive, a photographers worst nightmare.
Cheers
cassie.c87 - I recently lost all my hard drive and backup drive but recovered most of the material through a tech company in Hawthorn. Let me know if you are interested in contacting them and I will find their name for you. In the meantime, don't save anything on the affected drive.
That happened to me twice. You can also recover all your photos from your camera. Sony has a program for it, so I think every other camera brand will have it. You will need all the tiny numbers on the back of your card, and off you go. Even I could do it, easyDon't exactly remember what it was called, something like Memory Card Recovery ???
I recovered thousands of photos , I just let it run over night.

Barney.
Some really great photos from so many people.
Here are my humble efforts. 1 - Pacific Black Duck. 2 - Purple Swamphen. 3 - White Ibis. 4 - Great Egret. 5 - Little Pied Cormorants. 6 - White-fronted Chat. 7 - Black Winged Stilt and Red-kneed Dotterel.
These were taken at the Western Treatment Plant at Werribee.
For some reason the White-fronted Chat did not upload so I will try again.

Still wouldn't work - will try again later.
Finally, it worked.
Here is the White-fronted Chat, #6

And a fine #6 it is, too, Des.
