I came across this poor harrassed little Hobby out at Cranebrook in Sydneys West. I was riding my bike around the Penrith lakes area in the mistaken notion that they might have some access by now. Unfortunately this future prime birding area is not yet open to the public due to being still owned by the quarry folk I guess. It is nice to see the plants are growing in though. It will be great when they finally open it up. (and plant more trees) Their Great River Walk might be nice also when the quarry lease runs out and they can get on with phase two.
Anyway The Hobby was in a neighborhood tree being harrassed by Galahs and then also by some Currawongs. When they both started at him he decided to get outta there.
Those are great pics ....the galahs have certainly got hi outgunned size wise.
Is the nepean river walk a cycle path?

No Idea why they were attacking. There were a lot of Galahs about I think he was in their turf. The currawongs decided to join in after a while. The never actually attacked they were shouting and approaching him but no pecking. I got tired of waiting for him to fly off and put my camera back into my backpack and, of course, that was the very moment he went.
To answer Whistling Duck, The Penrith "Great River Walk" (to give it's full title) Is a walkway and cycleway there are a couple of spots where you are supposed to dismount but not many do. It is not very long so cycling is a very short ride. Once they are able to complete the further stages it will be much more fun. It is actually a bit of a lame duck at the moment, as far as walks or cycles go but will get better. It is more suited to a small picnic or packed lunch.
