Glad to find these little ones at Sydney Olympic Park (again) The weather was dodgy so I decided it was best to go somewhere where I could find shelter if needs be.

lovely shots ... they are cute little birds
You have beaten me to it as i have some pics of them from the weekend as well. On the ermington side of the parramatta river just opposite sydney olympic park. I had not seen any there for quite a few months.
everyone has seen some, except for me, I have only seen them in a Zoo
Beautiful photos Richard.Love the soft colours, could almost be a cold winter's day. (no noise in the background either....)

They are pretty little birds I was attracted by their calls. It sounded like there was a little kitten somewhere.
I prefer the Beautiful firetails I saw last weekend at Waterfall & Heathcote (Heathcote National Park) Unfortunately I didn't get any decent shots of them only dodgy ones (and I got wet then too)
This one is "just for you Richard", only to make you happy until you get a photo yourself. I don't doubt that will take long
This is one bird I have in my garden all year. (and Yellow Robins and a few more)

One of my favorite little finches ,they prove birds don't need bright colours to look stunning ,and his on the make to the long straight piece of dry grass is part of there display to impress the ladies ,nice shots
Double bars are such cute little birds. We have some that visit the shrubs at the back of the housing estate, and every now and then I see one sitting on my fence.
What beautiful looking birds, would love to see some, I think I would take 1000 photos

Thanks for thinking of me ML - I have lots of red browed firetail photos. I was referring to the bird named "Beautiful Firetail" They have beautiful little mask over their eyes and their chest is all black and white. I was very lucky to see two groups of them last weekend in Heathcore NP but didn't manage any good shots.

hi richman .... i saw double bar finch again today and heard him for the first time. Made me think of your post, the sound was exactly as you describe, a very soft mewing.
Here are a few more
Always such a striking little Finch these guys are, and these are beautifully captured. I agree Rick N, my card would be full of these beauties if I were lucky enough to spy them while travelling. Lucky you to see them again richman!

I am new in this forum and I'm glad I found this thread.
Wow, I love all those pictures of you Finches. They look so cute and I love the color of their feathers. Can't wait to browse more threads here.

Guess what I found in the chook pen to-day (I hope you don't mind me adding these on Richman)? They can always get in but for some reason can't get out.
A bit grainy and probably should have used flash but tried increasing the ISO to 3200.

Great closeups
Maybe they dont want to get out!
Good point!

clearly more food inside the chook pen than outside.
