Great capture ivmerton ..... I wouldnt let your chickens out to play with him though
I had one in my backyard a few years ago and I was wondering why all the neighbourhood birds were going berserk over what I thought from a distance was a cockatoo ...ha ha ..... on investigation I saw differently. I was told that when they sit like that even when they are under attack it is usually because they have a full crop and are digesting a nice meal ... better count your chicken
Birdie, I also thought cocky or corella (we get plenty of both) until I had a better look. And your theory of the full crop makes sense. Although it is spectacular I wanted it to move on, and it was remarkably reluctant. All chooks accounted for though.
Lovely photo, he has turned his head right front to back, (that is his back?) I would love to have one in my backyard. Lucky you!

Beautiful bird. How nice of him to keep an eye on your chickens for you.
