G'day from Marulan, NSW

Hi all, thought it was time I sat down and said hello.

My little town is just off the hume hwy between Sydney and Canberra. Since we moved here nine years ago we have watched houses appear and the big established trees disappear, and as a result the birds went with them :( , with the exception of the indian miners and starlings which have had a great time. This morning however, saw the best sign yet of the "good" birds returning with what appeared to be a clutch of 8-10 female and juvenille satin bowerbirds feeding in the front yard :). Along with this we saw a pair of eastern rosellas, a crested pidgeon and a few noisy's trying to police the area :P. Cheers, Dean.

Nice sightings, Dean. Are you & your neighbours trying to make up for what developers have vandalized?

Hi woko and Elsie, thanks for the welcome smiley

Woko, unfortunately as with most of these newish estates most of the established trees that have gone have been replaced with smaller types and shrubs. The upside being that there is a few smaller birds starting to make their way back.

Having said that, there has been a lot of positive signs lately and over the last twelve months we've probably had at least half a dozen new sightings including the little Eastern Spinebill, Friarbird and the red wattle bird.

As time goes on, I'll try to add photos to these in case I've mucked up the sightings wink

Thanks, Dean. I long for the day when a developer retains native vegetation & uses indigenous species in streets & parks. Perhaps there is one out there somewhere.

Welcome Dean! Lovely to hear of new/returning birds in your area, must be an encouraging sight. Looking forward to hearing more about your area & seeing some of your local lovelies.
