I thought I would add a fairly simple challenge for BIBY forum folk, as I have no camera at the moment (all my gear was robbed) and will be birding vicariously through online means.
The challenge is to capture NEW pictures only of birds standing on one leg. Which should be reasonably easy. To make it a little more challenging I have set a time limit, pictures from 16/04/14 - 16/05/14 one month only.
Don't go through your collection to find old pics you may have taken in the past.
Maybe if you edit the title of this topic to "Mini-challenge" or likewise is will help prevent confusion with Holly's weekly challenges?
I, for one, think that having another photo challenge running is a good idea.
Bugger, richman, sorry to hear that. That really sucks.
Cheers
Tim

I second that .. and having ''up to date photos'' for a challenge I find exciting . So.... off I have to go and find some birds now ( love that I can now use this as an excuse to leave my daily duties of housework to find birds to participate in this challenge ) .
Kerry - Perth, Western Australia.
I thought the point of this sub forum was to post challenges. If I was mistaken I apologise for any offence.
That's the spirit Shoop!
Yeah Timmo, it sucks, but now seeing as all my Canon gear was pinched I can change horses. I have bought a second hand Sony A77 from USA and some old glass to suit. I miss the long weekend but hey my place REALLY needs cleaning and I will have it for Anzac weekend. (credit card has taken a bit of a knock but you only live once)
Great idea richman. Of I go for the weekend You know you now have the perfect opportunity to go Nikon
More than happy for there to be other challenges - go for it!
richman very sorry to hear about your camera
I should apologise on my behalf, of course this is the ideal topic for the sub-forum, and I support your idea, I just thought maybe it would help with clarification..
Happy to be able to start Taken today at Barker Wetlands
Deep commiserations on the loss of your camera gear, richman. As they say in cultured circles: Excreta eventuate.
Thanks Woko, it certainly does, with monotonous regularity.
Nice one Rick, It amazes me how egrets (and other large waders) manage to hide those long legs. Is that Barker inlet SA or Laratinga Mt Barker SA? (or perhaps somewhere else)
Thanks richman, Barker Wetlands across the highway from the Dry Creek saltpans.
Yes, had to check some other photos just to make there were actually two legs to the bird.
One legged birds still qualify, in my book. Dry Creek Saltpans eh? Is that St Kilda, Buckland Park area in SA then? Looking on Google Earth that whole area around Barker Inlet and the Adelaide River looks interesting and quite wild. A flat bottomed boat would be handy for a lot of it by the looks.
Well Richard, easy.......
There aren't any birds standing on one leg in my garden, so off I went to the local Park in Berwick where every bird knows me
There were lots of Ducks, all of them either in the water or walking on two legs. The White-faced Heron was there, I waited and waited, he kept both legs firmly on the ground. After waiting for almost one hour I had enough, then I saw this one. Yes it stands on one leg

Very nice Araminta .... looks like he was trying to stay on two legs, but he just had to scratch his nose!
Hi Richman .... great idea for a challenge .... i assume its OK to post more than one pic? I got these today at Sydney Olympic Park.
Be interesting to see who can get the most birds on one leg (BOOL) in one pic too - i got three stilts.
Rockin' it guys. Who's up next to present a challenge, I think there are enough of us to warrant more than a few games. (keeps us off the bottle anyway) . See what I mean... those stilts...Where do they put those legs?
The middle one gave away their secret ....
Oo, I was hoping nobody would notice, but you are too clever WhistlingDuck, he was just scratching his nose
(I do have a Whistling Duck on one leg, but that was taken a few days ago, and that would be cheating and against the rules of the game )
M-L
Araminta ... im sure scratching is allowed, as long as he is only standing on one leg, it doesn't matter what he is doing with the other leg
Might be an idea for another challenge ... Birds Scratching :)
Taken today at Port Macquarie

yep if the bird is on one leg i think it should count, it doesn't matter what the other leg is doing, even if its reaching out to take a step!
Another one on my dads fence early this morning while having my cuppa before heading out.

That's the spirit. It's all good fun. I like these marching birds, goose stepping? I think the time limit might have been too long. I think 7 days is the magic number before someone else comes up with a funny idea for a challenge.
My new challenge to you all is for someone to come up with a new one.
Hope everyone is enjoying their easter birding. (I had couple of hours out with binoculars today)
Ok probably the worst photo ever but I think there are at least 7 or more spoonbills standing on one leg here. Bibra Lake taken on the 19-4-2014
Kerry - Perth, Western Australia.
Wow, thats a lot of spoonbills.
So sorry to hear about the loss of the camera gear so here are a couple of pics from me --- not fantastic but a bit of fun. A bit confused by the time frame but taken bang in the middle.
Would a suitable challenge be to post a picture of a male with someone to follow with the a female without repeating the same bird? Sue
Nice shots sue - love that striated heron, that must have been a tricky place for him to perch if it was swaying about
The Striated Heron perched on the rope which went up and down with the movement of water. Apparently he is a regular visitor. After the ropes he wandered around the jetty but did not catch much despite numerous fish (good size bream) swimming around. I did get soem nice pictures on the jetty but thought this one met the challenge.
Managed to get a variety of birds standing on one leg yesterday here in Perth as the day was miserable wet and cold , but just saw that this challenge in closed what a shame .
Kerry - Perth, Western Australia.
I think you should post them as late entries shoop - otherwise those poor birds were standing on one leg in the rain and cold for nothing !
Start a new challenge with a new time frame?
