Definately no expert, but the white extending up in front of the wing looks like a common sandpiper to me, the wood sandpiper seem to have a more "straight" lines, where the colour lightens, according to Morcombe's eGuide.

+ 1 for common.

Yes, the white going up in front of the shoulder is a good ID point for Common. A Wood sandpiper would have speckled plumage on the wings and back. :)
