Some kind of Finch?

From the look of the beak it could be a finch, but I can't find one like this in my books.

I forgot to say, it was photographed just south of Darwin. Any help would be appreciated.

Looks like a juvenile Crimson Finch according to Simpson & Day field guide. My younger brother identified it!

Great photo. I'd agree with Crimson Finch. Not obvious at first, but that tail is distinct. Lorne
