A Loophole Is Killing Thousands Of Birds Annually

The island of Malta is a natural pit stop for many migratory birds. In the spring season, when thousands of birds come to Malta to rest, they are met by thousands of hunters -- 10,000 to be exact. Too tired to flee after their long journey, countless birds are massacred -- including protected and threatened species.

Normally birds that are native in the European Union are protected by the Birds Directive. However, since the birds in Malta are migrating, hunters use this as a loophole to kill them. This makes Malta the only country in the European Union that allows recreational spring hunting.

Call on Commissioner for the Environment Janez Potocnik to stop this misuse of the Birds Directive and keep Europe's sky safe for migrating birds!

I signed too. I wonder if there is also a petition to try and stop the French and maybe other european gastronomes from chowing down on songbirds.

In their hundreds of thousands I believe, Araminta. Francois Hollande sets the example for his fellow citoyens. Also in Cyprus, in similar large numbers. Oh yes I am sure you are losing sleep over that nightingale in a baguette M-L. It was probably the one that sang in Berkeley Square. You wicked woman. I hope you followed the custom of covering your face with a table napkin to hide your shame from God.

I have done a few silly things when I was young, some of which I'm not proud off.crying, most of which I wouldn't do again.
