I saw this bird corpse underneath a little patch of casuarina trees in Asquith Park.
Does anyone know what it is?

Going by the beak, I can't find many birds in any of my books with similar beaks. The only birds coming close are Bowerbirds or figbirds. But then the colours don't match.
As I always say, over to the experts.

I thought the beak was like a tawny frogmouth, but the colours and patterns aren't a good match.

I think Kathy is onto it. I'd say tawny frogmouth myself, based on beak and colors.

I think both of you are right, Tawny Frogmouth. Because it's dead , it just looks so different . What happened to it's eyes? I wonder what killed it? Were there any marks on it?

Thanks Araminta and Timmo. Yes I can't find any other birds that have beaks like that tawny frogmouth beak. I couldn't tell what happened to it - it was not a freshly dead bird. But it looks a bit like a big chick to me - not sure why - maybe because the beak looks so disproportionately large - but that could be in death as well. You know 5 minutes earlier I saw a lone glossy cockatoo being bugged by about 15 minahs just nearby. That's really unusual to see them around here too. It was a remarkable morning bird wise for me today.

Would that be Indian Mynahs or Noisy Miners, Kathy? And where might Asquith Park be? NSW, Qld, Vic, SA, Tas, WA, NT or ACT?
They were noisy mynahs - and asquith is on the northern fringe of sydney - near hornsby.
