Nice photo Kevin. I have had them in my garden for years, they are not shy at all. I guess it depends on where you live too? I have stopped taking photos of them, because they hang around a lot, just like the Yellow Robins. I hear their call all day long.
If you get to know their song, you might see them more often?
Good catch Kevinj .... although they are common in some areas they can tend to hide quite a lot too. I love the colour of their eyes . You seem pretty close , what kind of lens are you using?
NIce photo - Morcombe's field guide says they are "abundant", but i have only seen them a couple of times, lucky for me they did stay around to have their picture taken.
Thanks for looking, they may be abundant but they hide pretty well around my area,,this was taken with my Sigma 150-500mm@ 500mm,the original image is much sharper,it lost a bit in the download.
I have the same lens Kevin and I know it has some shortcomings at times but on the whole it is good I guess ( I have recently been moaning about it here )
With regards to your image , it is best for you to open a Flickr account and then resize your image to about 2000 on the longest side and upload to there. Then you can post a link to here which doesnt degrade that image at all. it is a bit complicated but there should be plenty of help on here if you have troubles
Unfortunately we don't get them here in Western Australia ( that I know of ) so thanks for sharing such a lovely photo and hope you get to see some more Kevin.
Ah Ha!.. I saw one of those here yesterday a couple of times. I didn't know what it was and the picture in my field guide didn't help at all.
Nice shot they don't keep still long.
