A series of photos taken last week in a tidal mangrove creek at Arno Bay SA.
The two birds were in about 1.5 metres of water and seemed to be feeding on prawns.
With them being so preoccupied I was able to get closer than I have been able to at any other time with these shy birds.
Lucky grebes - getting a feed of prawns.
Great shots as always.
Its very cute they the way they dive - head down and the rear pops up then disappears - and then they appear again bobbing up on the surface. Love your shots of the splash dive and them surfacing.
How did you work out where and when they were going to resurface?
These are great Rick... I love the pool around its head when it dives on number 3 and in the 2nd one looks like it is looking at itself in the mirror !! What shutterspeed were you using for these just out of interest?
Sunshine Coast Queensland
Thanks all.
WD, The surfacing bit was the hardest. It was quite still so you could sometimes see some bubbles to indicate the area that they would surface in. Then it was a case of focus there and fire of a heap of shots when the feeling was right.
birdie, most of the action shots 1/1600 otherwise 1/1250
Cheers
Beautifully done Rick.
