Boobook Owl in flight

The male powerful owl hasn't been at the nesting hollow for two days so we thought we might have a look back at the mangrove swamp to see if he has returned to there.

We had poked about for half an hour with no luck when this Boobook flew out from under a rock shelf.

He sat looking confused and dazzled by the sunlight for a couple of minutes then flew back into the shade under the shelf.

We were surprised how human-life his eyes were.

Cheers,

Antonia

Magic shots there! Just love number two with the big clear eyes and open talons.

Hi Rick N, Shoop & Elsie,

Many thanks for your comments.

However, I cannot stress too highly how much luck was involved in getting these photos...the good light, the owl flying towards us instead of away and even the fact we had just dialled in the right camera settings for a different bird altogether.

Cheers and thanks again,

Antonia

Amazing shots!  Yes, there is sometimes luck involved but you still have to be there.
