Nankeen Kestrels

I decided to take a trip out to a few sites around Gatton yesterday, and while I was driving to the first one, I spotted a Raptor sitting on a powerline, so I pulled up, and it turned out to be a Nankeen Kestrel. Yayyy!!! I haven't seen one before...

Little did I suspect that this would be the first of many. I think I spotted at least a dozen on my trip around Gatton. (probably would have spotted more, except I got my car bogged, and had to dig it out)

At least I know where to go if I need to find a Kestrel. smiley

winkany photos of your bogged car?wink (just joking)

Great set of photos. You were at the right spot at the right time, to see that many should have made your day. Nankeen Kestrels have this gentle look on their face, just like in your last photo.

Heh. No, I somehow forgot that bit. ;) I'm feeling the pain today enough without that added to it.

They were some way apart, but every road I seemed to turn down there seemed to be one or two sitting on the powerlines. :) (it's all farm country out there)

Such sweet little faces they have...unless you're a small bird or lizard being targeted for their lunch I suppose laugh  How lucky to have seen so many and to be able to capture such a variety of beautiful shots windshear.  Glad you were able to get yourself unbogged!

Great photos, how exciting! I am often out Gatton way and am always amazed at how many raptors can be seen, even just driving past on the highway!

Lovely photos. I too am amazed at how many are around while driving in the country once you start looking.
