Reposting these photos here, one of the two terrible mistakes I made in the "challenge" section, and the photos were removed.. I do apologize.
So, here are both sexes:

Thanks for posting both photos together, Araminta. They're both beautiful birds. I think its interesting that their colour are the opposite of what most birds have, with a bright female rather than a bright male. I take it they were both at Healesville like your Orange Bellied Parrot? I wonder how the people who run the sanctuary manage to keep tropical birds like these happy and healthy?
Thanks Lachlan, yes, I took those photos at Healesville. Took them last year, haven't been there for a while, although I'm not that far away from the sanctuary, about 40 km. Have you been to Healesville?

Lovely shots again of such spectacular birds. The female is stunning with those wonderful colours. Thanks for sharing!
Your comment got me wondering Lachlan if birds see colours the way humans do. It seems birds have better colour vision than we do, and also see the ultraviolet spectrum.
To avoid hijacking Arminta's thread, I posted a link to an interesting article in the General forum -

Intersting comment WhistlingDuck. Don't be silly, you can hijack my thread any day. This is a very interesting and related question.
Now I will have to read up on it a bit more.
