I think you'd be lucky to see one where you live, Araminta, but if you take a trip to the nearest coastal or near-coastal heath you might see one. They're unlikely to be seen in the tall forests around your neck of the woods. I've only had one sighting at my place on the s.e. slopes of the Mt Lofty Ranges SA but this was in about 1989 when our property had a few scattered Eucalypts amidst mostly grassland.
"What good is the warmth of Summer, without the cold of Winter to give it sweetness". But yes, Cabin fever sets in after a while here too sparrow, so I'm definitely hearing you!! Certainly is looking like one wet winter.
Back to topic.....love the "one you prepared earlier", such a pretty shot. Are they a honeyeater you see regularly, or more seasonally sparrow? Would love to see one of these one day myself - perhaps later in the year I'll have some luck down South of the State.
Hi Annie ,we have a few resident birds that are here all year but around the end of may the population seems to just explode and they're everywere, like most H/E they're fairly aggessive and chase everything except the Yellow tuffed H/E who chase them, I haven't been able to get a clear photo of one of their full on barney's yet ,very entertaining to watch and their so "fast" they make some of the other little bullets like spinebills seem slow by comparison ,one of my favorites
Same thing happens here at the same time of year sparrow - I like it when the birds come to me instead . Hey snap! I am waiting for a few disruptions to happen in my front yard over the most sought after shrub. Last year a pair of Crescents went virtually uncontested in their ownership of it, this year they have a few other species sneaking onto it. Might be some interesting dynamics to come! All fun to watch for sure.
Aww, sorry you've been stuck inside.
That's a really beautiful bird, one I've never seen. Love seeing the variety of Honeyeaters.
So am I Mark, and now it's very cold too I hate winter Today it rains even more.
But your photo is gorgeous. We don't get those down here, unless I have missed them
