Many readers would know that my relief manager's role has had me in Parkes for the last 9 months. Well the time has come to move on (from that organisation).
My new role is a permanent position in Mackay, Qld
A shame that I had a weekend here in Oct '13 when I got the endemic species of the area - Eungella Honeyeater.
However I should be able to add to my list (and keep ahead of Shorty)
Now that you will be stuck in one spot, i might start catching you

Good luck in you new position Peter, look forward to your future posts. Just for us mere mortals, wondering if both you and Shorty could give us your current count please? Maybe anyone else with high numbers could also chip in, not that it is a completion, I am just interested.

Best of luck in Mackay. A great place, and also Cape Hillsborough. No doubt you'll find lots of birdlife at Eungella National Park.
Eungella National Park is also a great place to see a Platypus on a pretty regular basis.

Dale - my list is 462 Australian, 92 North American and 26 Samoan; I am booked for a birding tour from 20 July (yes, start a new job for almost 3 weeks and then go on leave) and the bird list says 60 possible - I will be happy with 30

I should mention that I have a pair of Orange-footed Scrubfowl in my backyard and that about 6 Plumed Whistling-duck visited the chook yard next door on Sunday

Hope you enjoy your new job, Mackay is a nice place. If you can get the chance, make sure you go out to Cape Palmerston if you haven't been there before. It's an absolutely spectacular place! Your 580 birds puts me to utter shame; I thought I was doing well with about 200 and somethingish. Where are you going for a tour to?

As of this morning (Spotted quail-Thrush, both male and female) i am up to 247 Australian birds.

Thanks for your updates on your counts. I am struggling to make 50 (sighted, but not photographed YET) but we don't have the variety, and I don't have as much time as I would like. Keep up the good work, and keep the pics coming.
