Very odd

Hi all,

I was driving along earlier today and passed a kangaroo body on the side of the road. This is not an unusual sight here (sadly enough). What was unusual was the sight of two eastern Rosellas eating from it. Has anyone else seen this? In my whole life I have never witnessed Rosellas doing this so I was quite stunned.

If anyone can shed any light on this I would be most grateful. :)

Take care,
TrudyC

If the carcass was several days old I wonder if the Rosellas were feeding on maggots or other critters involved in decomposition.

Hi there Woko,

It was definitely an old carcass, but I didn't even know Rosellas ate bugs? I couldn't find anything online that suggested they eat meat... This has really thrown me so-to-speak...

Take care,
TrudyC

Could they have been eating seeds blown into the carcass, or seed heads from grass growing under/through the carcass? Perhaps you'll never know Trudy.

As well as seeds, fruit, blossoms & nectar they also feed on insects & their larvae. (From Reader's Digest Complete Book of Australian Birds).
