Black Kite?

Taken today in the Riverland near Barmera SA. First thought it was a Whistling Kite but now don't think so. First for me if BK.

Going by the forked tail and yellow cere, i would confirm Black Kite.

Thanks Shorty,

Was happy to see this one in an area where I usually only see Whistling Kites, though

it looks like the WK have bred. Haven't been there for about 4 months so it was a shock to see

five WK hunting instead of the usual two. Chicks look quite young, will post some grainy photos when I get some time.

Cheers

Absolutely. Notice it isn't close to being black! LJ

Isn't it a Fork Tailed Kite?

Edit: Oh, whoops, old nomenclature, sorry.

He he, that's the stupid English naming convention for you. In my native Hungary they call these Brown Kites... :)
