Various birds from a recent trip to Whyalla SA.
My first White Necked Heron was exciting. Just driving along and saw him in a small dam with the ducks. Sea birds were taken at Point Lowly site of the annual Giant Cuttlefish breeding aggregation.
Thankfully, after a couple of bad years where it was feared they had been wiped out, there were better numbers this year.
Wonderful again Rick. White necked heron is a beautiful bird - great find.
Great catch all round with that tern - a caspian tern?
Love that gull photo.
Good news about the Cuttlefish breeding.
Marvellous photos.
Another great collection here Rick, love the last one.
I was born in Whyalla S.A. must get back there one day .
Kerry - Perth, Western Australia.
Great photos.
I love that Pacific Gull. I've never seen a Reef Egret.
Thanks all,
Tim, I'm embarassed to say I didn't know it was a Reef Egret, I thought it was a White Faced
Thanks for the info.
There must be a few different common names for these birds. My book says its a pied heron. The reef heron is shown all brown. The book also says the white and dark phases of the bird are seen, and breed freely together.
Yeah there's always more to learn isn't there?
Night parrot the Eastern Reef Egret is the 4th photo.
