I remember the time we used to have fun on this forum, …..
This thread is for everything “non birdy” So, let’s have some fun then. I would love to see some of your photos of things other than birds.
I took some macro photos this morning, just after the rain stopped. Have a look at the reflection of the grass in the lower droplet, it’s upside-down, while the other one is not.
I’m sure you have photos you would like to show? I would love to see some.
I spent some time photographing this amazing moment last year as well as saving the poor thing from the ants that were attacking it. It was one of natures greatest moments and I was lucky enough to capture it. Unfortunately in the end he died of exhaustion and probably some poison from the ants bites.
Wow, this is out of this world. What was her(?) story? Was she laying eggs into the tree trunk? What exactly was is? Is the green thing part of a wing?
Please explain.
M-L
Hi Araminta,
this cicada was shedding its skin and coming out with a fresh layer meaning that it couldn't fly until its wings have unfolded and regained strength. Unfortunately it decided to do this near an ant colony who thought it looked like a tasty meal. Also the green thing is its wing and over the course of the hour the wing unfurled and grew by about 4x in size
Cheers Babybirdwatcher
Thanks so much for that information It all makes sense now

Meet Agro, a 1.2 metre Tiger Snake (Notechus Scutatus). Agro was removed from under house storage in a house at Taroona, less than 10klm from the centre of Hobart. Photo take by Sam (my son) posted with permission, while I am holding Agro, the owners wanted proof of capture. Agro was relocated to an area where hopefully he will stay out of trouble.
This colour is common in some areas of Tasmania, Tiger Snakes come in a wide variety of colours, and cannot be used to accurately identify species.

Oh how lucky Agro is that someone called you and he was rescued . More often than not, people just take a shovel and kill those beautiful animals.
Great photo, wonderful colours. I have more than one resident snake. There has been a large Tiger behind the shed I’m going to live in soon. In summer my Heeler got bitten, when he sniffed it. Nothing happened to her though, must have been a dry bite, or just a warning. They strike so fast, that I didn’t see it. Other than this Tiger I have a few smaller Copperheads, they are more placid. Also one red bellied that hangs around. Wonder how the chooks are going to cope with the snakes? Just bought 4 new ones, after a fox ate the last lot all in one day. (7 of them)
The tigers in my garden are a lot browner and less stripy. I love the photo, thanks for sharing Dale

Python passing by the other day.
I found two humungus skins in my chook pen recently that made this one look like a baby. I'm not good with snakes, any kind of snake.

Rainy Sunday afternoon and the rescue of a young Kingfisher who tried to fly through a closed window.....I think he was more stunned than hurt.

very cute, they wouldn't be yours? Does that mean you have a little girl?
M-L
Was it the size or the colour that made you think that?
Three grand daughters actually!

Found this little fella asleep in some low branches of a tree last week-end. Must have been very tired because he woke up and saw me then deciced to go back to sleep. He wasn't even three metres off the ground.

This is what experience can do for you photography-wise,
The more you take the more you learn.

I love dragons.
It rains non stop at my place. I hate winter

These are what you find in swimming pools. Its a Female Mouse Spider, I find them fascinating.
Tim, It needs a coin or something to be placed next to it so we can understand how big it is?
Samford Valley Qld.
Wait its not a female, its a male sorry. And it was probably about 3.5cm not including legs.
This is taken with the same reverse lens macro.Click photo for much better size.
Timothy, why do you find them in swimming pools?
M-L
Lots of spiders seem to find their way into swimming pools. They fall in and then cant get out because it is too slippery.
Lovely spider shot Tim! I love spiders and enjoy photographing them
How long has it been raining at your house M-L? We are in need of rain at my house before our grass starts to blow away
Here's a photo of some bees in a Dragon Fruit flower:

There are many people who have only arrived in Brisbane in the last three or four years and have not yet seen the sort of rain events and flood events that we can have here.
This is photograph taken at Oxley common yesterday of a large wooden pallet hanging on the power lines presumably from the last significant rain event.
Samford Valley Qld.
Nice pallet though, I could think of a few things to turn that into. Pallet furniture is in fashion.

Wow! Lots of amazing photos.
Here are a couple of my favourite photos that are non-birdy.
I feel like singing.. "These are a few of my favourite things...." But I will let those with a singing voice do that instead.

Wings on this chap, but not a bird.
Sometimes an amateur golfer can fluke a hole in one and start thinking that with a bit of practice they might be the next Tiger Woods....
This was my photographic equivalent of such a shot.
It has been cropped down from a much bigger picture, and shows less than 10% of the original shot. Yet it's still reasonably clear for a hand hand picture with an inexpensive camera and kit lens. Sometimes, you're just lucky enough to hit the shutter when you're not wobbling. All the other photos I took that day came nowhere near the accuracy of focus, and were the usual fuzzy near misses. But, like the new golfer who fluked a hole in one, I'm still trying to work my way up to doing something similar at least some of the time!
The flower was garlic chives - wonder what the honey tasted like??
Chris
Some more of my favourite non-birdy things.
I love gardening and really enjoy planting natives. The garden bed shown is a screen between my daughters bedroom and the roadway to give her some privacy and to help bring native animals and birds closer to her.
Happy Birding!

I like to take photos of other things apart from birds though they are still my main focus (pun intended)
