calling all day calling all night..

Hi

we have one of those "calling all day, calling all night" birds about the place at the moment. wasnt around last year. it has me stumped as to what it is.

began calling at night a few weeks ago (just after new moon), began calling during the day instead coming up to full moon, now just calls day and night.

2 calls, a 2 note call and a 3 note call. both are loud, harsh, grating, fast calls. 2 note call sounds like 'woo-choo' or 'whir-chir', bit like a stockwhip almost, 3 note call sounds like 'woo-ka-chee'.

i'm in Hawkesbury, NSW (Freemans Reach), but fairly new to this part of the world

i've listened to as many sound files as i can find for calls of anything that i figure could be a possibility, but still stumped.

any ideas?

cheers, Mike

Is it an Eastern Whipbird?

fair call, but definitely not a whipbird. lower pitched, much more grating call. semi rural about here, lots of trees but not much ground cover, so looking at something happy in open woodland

Could it be a Willie Wagtail?  I think (?) I remember reading on here some time ago that they like to have a chat during the night? smiley

A frog species of some sort? Some of our eastern NSW tree frogs have calls that go on and on. Would make sense after the wet weather we've had. Lorne
