Hi, it's happening again! Exactly the same as this time last year- early morning, sounds like a truncated Currawong call. Double 2 note call- " CUR ra Cur ra". The voice of a currawong but shortened> Any ideas ? Posted about the same thing last year. What is it?
Hard to know what it is. Where are you? What sort of habitat is the bird in? LJ
so we have eliminated the Koel right?
Not a Koel. I'm in West Pennant Hills in sydney. A fairly densely wooded sunurb
If I remember correctly, I suggested last year it could be the start of a Kookaburra call. Where I live the Kookaburras often start like this, but then stop before it turns into a full laughing call.
I'm making the same suggestion again.

It ain't a Kookaburra! Believe me.
The only bird I know of that sounds like a currawong is a currawong, their call is fairly distinctive They have variations on their call, maybe that is what you are hearing. Otherwise, you need to upload a recording to a site like youtube, your description isn't very helpful.
Right! Sorry!

What about a Noisy Friar.
They sound like the start of a Currawong call. (To me anyway)
Cheers

No, sorry. Got me stumped . Can't get a look at it either. Weekend so might do the driving around trying to do so
cheers
So thought it was a noisy Friar as I heard one this morning and it sounds exactly like the beginning or a currawong call.
Anyway, let us know as soon as you see it or even better take a photo of it.
