Took these at the local riverside lake at Meadowbrook. The nest was built out on the water, and the small birds (compared to the ducks and swans there) were very attentive parents.

Hi, those birds look happy swimming in what seams to be a clean lake? How many young did they have? Where is Meadowbrook?

Hi, Meadowbrook is part of the Logan shire, and the park is on the Logan River, Qld. south of Brisbane. The grounds are cared for, but there is always a constant threat from the many, many picnicers at the site. I've seen plastic bags and bottles in the water from time to time, but on the whole, the maintenance men seem to do a good job. I think the lake is man made, but because of its position, birds were already attracted to the area. It is also one of the few places that I see finches and wrens these days.
This is the little lady sitting on her eggs. She reared 2 chicks, and it seems the male takes one and the female the other. In the first pic, I have a pic of each, but don't know which one is which.

That is beautiful, birds are taking to man made lakes very quickly. It's a shame some people show so little respect for nature and wildlife. Lovely photo, I like the reflections on the water.

I really think I am lucky here. It is considered a poor and backward area, but the council has taken some trouble to get these pockets of habitat to suit people and birds together (so they can study each other?). We have a smaller park at Kingston nearby on Scrubby Creek, mainly ducks there, and most recently the Berrinba Wetlands which I have yet to properly explore. I have been intrigued by the number of pelican sightings in these areas, and the sea eagles. I am amazed that the little grebes were able to successfully rear their young with the much larger birds around.
These are my favourite pics too. I was really lucky to get them.
