Not a great deal of chances to get out and about to different birdy places of late. So, thought I'd visit some of the usual haunts and see if I could at least capture some of the regular cast & crew in an Autumn setting, or fattening themselves up after the breeding season in preparation for Winter.
Here's who stopped by:
This little female Scarlet Robin was such a pretty girl. Her man was never too far away, but I fluffed most of my shots of him .
I nicknamed this male Superb Fairy-wren, Bon Jovi. He arrived at the 80's themed B&S Ball, fashionably late, scruffy Rock Star hair and wearing an op shop aquired suit jacket on top & Levi's down the bottom - but he did have a lovely bouquet for his lady. I really don't know what he thought he was doing with the Tas winter not too far away, but I did observe what appeared to be some afternoon delights happening amongst two groups of SFw's, together with some wooing of the girlies with flowery gifts like this. Seemed unusual for this time of year to me?
Grey Fantail (juv) - this little character chased away all the SFW's and then proceeded to alert me to the fact that there was another big scary bird on the ground that he/she didn't like either.
The Fantail (above) didn't however seem to mind the Dusky Robin below, who was just beneath chowing down on a nice Bull Ant lunch.
Was so focused on the branched birds, I failed to notice this juvenile Grey Shrike-thrush foraging in the leaf litter close by, even though the Fantail had clearly tried to point it out. I wasn't fast enough to catch a shot of him flicking the leaves over searching for grubs, but very interesting to see.
Last but not least, another Dusky Robin - or the same one, who can tell - chowing down on a nice juicy grub.
Oh Annie! These are just wonderful!
Grey Fantails can be quite the little bossy boots. (like their cousins willy wagtails)
They are all fantastic, but that first one with the gorgeous colour of the leaves and her chest... (no words)
All fantastic shots .... first one is really charming
That grey shrike-thrush looks a real character - love his eye brows!
Theya re just stunning Anniej .... all of them , so artistically composed and the pink hues are fantastic. Love your story to go with them too

Absolutely stunning! I am loving the colors of the leaves - I'm from the States and miss a deciduous autumn. The birds' characters come through loud and clear in your photos!
Fantastic photos Annie and wonderfully described. As in Shorty's recent contribution, really brings it to life.
I agree, that robin's breast looks like a muted reflection from the leaves.
It's just gorgeous, Annie. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers
